Clever: Where to Store the Ironing Board

A space for the ironing board when there's not much space. Clever and simple.

Bathroom Sliding Door

Yeah it's finally up and sliding! Loving our new sliding glass door for the bathroom!
Started putting together the wardrobes, will post pictures soon.

Mirrors, Beams

Saw this and had to think of out place; white walls, black beams, mirrors.
Mirrors really help to widen small spaces.
I think this is a hair saloon though, so that's where the comparison ends.
Well, today is Labour Day, and that's exactly what we'll be doing; labouring!

The white paint is making a huge difference. Good to see results!

The view from our tiny attic is transforming constantly. Blossoms are finally blooming!

Before/After, The Hallway Is Painted!

Even though there's nothing much we can do about the ugh-brown front door (rental), the hallway is finally wallpapered and painted! Gloriously White! Yeah!

See for yourselves: before and after, 4 weeks ago, and now.

Next Step; Sliding Glass Door for Bathroom is going on. Roll on tomorrow!

Sliding Door (Glass!) for Bathroom. Oh how I do love a bargain!

Sooooo. We've been looking since forever for a sliding door, and we were looking into making one ourselves. But last Sunday I decided to check the 'second hand' online portal (eBay Kleinanzeigen), and just then someone had posted a door; sliding, glass, cheap, perfect!
So off we went to Mainz (about 60km away) yesterday, and bought our glass sliding door for the bathroom.
At €70, a bargain.
Here's a quick picture, and by Thursday we should get a chance to set it up, and I'll post some more pictures then!
Happy Tuesday to me, and you, and everyone!

Getting Stuff Done

So, we're not huge fans of skirting boards, but this is only a rental after all, so wall and floor are not as pristine as they would need to be, to have them meet flush.
Well, here's what we did, bought 3x2s (cm), sanded them down, painted them white, sanded them again, painted them again, and voila!, ready to use!
Makes a change to use skirting that's the same colour as the wall, not the floor.
Back to wallpapering. (Yes, we're still at that ;)

Something Beautiful

Old Radios, gotta love em!

Spotted a lovely old Radio that will hopefully make a good addition to our living room.
No, it's not the one in the picture, ah well.

That's it for today, hope you had a happy Tuesday! Over and Out.

Vintage Revivals: How To Build A SIMPLE Sliding Barn Door

Great idea!

Vintage Revivals: How To Build A SIMPLE Sliding Barn Door: How to make a Sliding Barn door was hands down the most requested tutorial from The Epic Room Makeover 2012 , which I was SUPER excited abou...

Chipping Away, Laying Cables, Wallpapering, etc

Etc etc etc.
That's the thing about an old house (circa 1902), even when it's refurbished and renovated (several times in the last 100 years), some things can't be moved/avoided; beams for example. Laying extra cables and fitting more plugs and light sockets becomes a difficult and time-consuming chore.
And we're still filling the cracks and holes.
And here's the thing about Germany; very strict 'no noise' periods; like between 12:30 to 13:30, and from 18:00 to 7 in the morning. Soooooo, no sanding, drilling, vacuuming, or loud bodily functions (ok, I made up that last one) and especially not on a Sunday.
Having said all that, our neighbours have been really patient.
But after 6 years of living in Spain, you can HEAR the silence here. And sometimes it too quiet.
Right, it's Saturday evening, almost 9pm, and we're getting ready for another round of wallpapering. Carpe Diem, and all that.

Wednesday 10 April 2013

Wallpapering, Day Two

Sorry about the grainy pictures, one day soon I shall post something prettier!

Tomorrow we'll continue at the tiny attic, wallpapering, laying down floorboards in the "bedroom", etc.

Tuesday 9 April 2013

Yellow!

Had a busy day at the tiny attic, wallpapering. Going there again on Thursday, will continue the work then, and I'll take some more pictures of what we've done so far.

Happy with the progress!

Wallpapering Our Tiny Attic

We are not big fans of wallpaper, and even when it's all done we still have to paint it all white.
It all takes time, and we are getting impatient for it to be done.

Thing is, every wall is crooked, and that's what slows us down.
Plus we can't even be there all the time, a little thing called work constantly gets in the way.

Here a few not-so-exciting pictures of what we did yesterday. We actually got one length of wall done, but I didn't take a picture, was too eager to go and sleeeeeeeep.

It's starting to look even better than we had imagined!

Going to do more wallpapering tomorrow after work.
More pictures then!

Sunday 7 April 2013

Sunset

Just had to leave you with this view, it's quite distracting really, supposed to be wallpapering, but keep stopping to look out.
It feels like progress is slow, we were filling holes and cracks in walls for hours and hours. But finally started with the wallpaper. Didn't get too much done, will post some pictures tomorrow.
Night night!

The Floor Is Done!

Can't believe it myself, but here the pictures as evidence!

Prepping the walls now, still filling some gaps and holes.

One day soon this will all be done :)

Thursday 4 April 2013

Putting Down The Floor Boards

Almost almost almost done with the floor.
So wrecked, here a couple of pictures, and I'll post pictures of the finished product tomorrow.
Every single wall in the house is crooked, it's awful hard to get a straight line down, but we did it. Just a couple of hours work to go! Tomorrow.

Get Rid Of That Mountain Of Clothes!

28 square meters, 300 square foot, that's not a whole lot, so no extra room for clothes that don't actually get worn.
If I went through my clothes, and honestly analysed what I really wear/like, I would barely fill a suitcase.
Makes me think, I have a lot of throwing out (clothes bank!) to do.

Tomorrow the new floor goes in our teeny tiny attic!

Underlay Done!

Whoop! The underlay is all down! On Thursday we will put down the flooring. And then back to painting and wallpapering.

We had to take the bathroom door off and the front door off to get the underlay down. Also cut 2.5cm off the bottom of the front door, to allow room for the underlay and floor panels. Just took the bathroom door off for good, as we will be making a sliding door for the bathroom.

Of course, as soon as both the bathroom door and the front door where off, I was bursting to use the toilet! Murphys Law...
